I adopted a stray male cat 3 months ago. His fur was creamy, off-white overall. Suddenly it started changing to yellow stripes, and now he's mostly yellow everywhere. What happened?

The cat is approx. 3 years old, and the color change happened in a matter of 3 months.

Well, that sounds a bit extreme from what I've seen, but I can tell you that lack of nutrition will make them look less than gorgeous. When we adopted our male, he was so malnourished that his white fur was a yellow color, and his orange tiger markings were more of a buff color. Now he's bright white and orange. (And he was 2 when we adopted him last year, so it wasn't the maturing of a kitten.)

How old was he when you got him? Some cats as they age change colors. Also, I have noticed that some cats also change marking in different seasons. One other possibility is that you said he was a stray when you got him, the sun could have bleached his coat and as he shed, the true colors were able to show through.

Well... If he was young Then he probably shed off his kitten coat and got his adult coat. If hes an older cat he might just have started shedding and is getting his winter coat (which may or may not be a different color) It works that way with some animals

As cats age they tend to change colors. Just accept him for who he is. And good job for helping an animal in need.

if he was a kitten then its normal to have their colors become more pronouced as they grow, my kittens colorings are all different form when they were younger. If he was not a baby then I do not know.

Yellow was probably his natural color all along, and now that he's healthier, his coat's healthier, too.
