take the long way and correct her when she barks for the wrong reason and rewrd her for barking at the right ones. or you can purchase a "barking collar" which will make her stop altogether after a short period of time. Once you take it off she will eventually bark again, but will be much more hesitant and careful about what she barks at (this is the technique I used with my lab puppy and it worked)

I have 3 of those. Take a squirt bottle and fill it with water. Add a few drops of vinegar and shake. Every time the dog barks squirt it. Not in the face!!! They hate the smell and in no longer then 3 days he will start t change his habits. If he starts back up pick up the bottle again. My dog will stop before he can get it out in mid action. I got this technique from some one at the humane society. It is nicer then a barking collar.

I also have the same problem with my Maggie a Dauchie Terrier mix! We tried everything professional training shock collars, sonic sound collars, crates when we were away, chew toys, we even considered debarking her! Which is a surgical procedure which the vet either cuts or crushes their vocal cords! Which does not harm them in any way and does not STOP the barking but you cant barley hear the bark! It sound like a whisper! My Maggie weighs 12 lbs but weight doesn't really matter in this subject! Then i heard about the citronella collar which gently sprays a mist of citronella sent into their faces! Its totally harmless and works great! I used the shock collar for 6 months with no luck i tried the citronella and it 2 weeks and now she only barks when strangers are around! Its a great product and its not to expensive either! But you will have to refill the collar like every 2 days! The original box you buy it in does contain one refill bottle! So buy a few refill bottles if you do purchase one! I bought mine from MuttMart they have excellent costumer service and the shipping was incredibly fast! And best of all i got FREE shipping!

haha. sweetie it doesn't work like that. if you want a guard dog, there are classes for that. but if you want a quiet dog you'll have to train it to be quiet. The only way to train it to be quiet is to completely ignore it any time it barks. period. if it starts to bark turn your back on it and only give it attention when it's quiet. believe me, having a quiet dog is much better than a dog that barks at everything. if you or your home is really in danger, dogs have a way of sensing that and he will protect you...

If she is left in the yard for long periods of time, any dog will bark at anything out of boredom. I've had many dogs, all of which were inside pets, as soon as someone came near my door they always barked to alert me.

If your dog is an inside pet, consider obedience training. With the proper training, it would only take one command from you to silence her.

Try a time out. We used it on our Lab. If he does not listen he gets a time out with his mussel on for 2 minutes.
Before that we tell him no in a stern tone. He now barks at the people who come and knock at the door, not if they are down the road or across the street. You have to be consistent with behavior training.

Anyone who does not want a barking dog, should not get a dog. Maybe a cat, ferret, or fish would be a better pet.
