Teejay, I am sorry for your loss. I know this will be said again and again, but it does get better.
I have lost a 14 year old dog, 12 year old dog, a 14 year old cat, a 20 year old cat, and another 12 year old dog in my lifetime. It never gets any easier, but it does help to think about the good times, the funny times, and the quiet times with your pet. The 20 year old cat gets me to tear up still, two years later. It just helps to know that you loved them while they were here, and you got to share their life with them.
My condolences.

Sorry to hear about your loss. It is hard, most of us have lost a pet in the past and wonder the same thing why, but after a while when the pain eases up, you come to terms with the fact that it was just their time and death is a part of life we must all experience. There are no magic words that can make it easier on you but as the saying goes time heals all wounds and your pain will ease up. I'm not saying you will forget because you never will your pet has a special place in your heart. Be patient and know its OK to grieve as your pet was a part of your family for 13 years of course you will miss them terribly.

I am so sorry for your loss! I have lost many pets in my over 40 years of pet ownership. It is never easy. The grief gets easier with time, altho you will always have an empty spot in your heart which the dog owned. Take it one day at a time. Don't be afraid to cry. Talk to someone who understands. Their are pet grief groups on the net, find one and join it so you can get comfort and advice from others who have been thru the same thing.

Losing a pet is like losing a parent, sibling or close friend. My family dog, (got him when I was 8) died 4 years ago and it was very very hard to get over. I would cry and constantly think about him... What we did do is get a little stone plaque that said his name and put it in the garden along with his ashes.. So whenever I look at the beatiful flowers I think of him but happily...
I am very sorry for you and in time it will get better... Unfortunately you will go through all the same grieving process as any other death.

The worst part about having a dog is the huge chance that someday you are going to out live your friend. You'll get through it take it one day at a time. Grieving is a process and can be a long one but before you now it you be pouring all that lost love in your heart into another pooch while keeping a special place in your heart for the one you lost. So sorry for your loss my deepest sympathy I'm sure if there is a doggy heaven your buddy is looking down wishing he/she could ease your pain.

After I lost my cat of 19 years, I sat down and put together all the photographs I had of him over his lifetime and make a scrapbook. It was kind of closure for me and helped me remember all the good times I had with him. I take out the album from time to time when I am missing him. He died 7 years ago, and I still think about him often!

Sorry to hear about your loss. It isn't easy, and only time will heal what you now feel.
Just remember all the good times you spent togeather, they will soon drown out the pain.
And remember that your best friend is waiting at the bridge.
