Okay, calm down. I am a Muslim. I DONT think the pope should apologize. You have extremist everywhere, okay? But, an explosion has occured with these morons screaming off with his head when the poor pope was only making a reference to a very old ancient text. I agree that there are horrible and cruel PEOPLE, make no mistakes about it, but it makes me very sad to see you classify EVERYONE who shares my religion as being that way. It is just not true, and I sincerely hope that you believe that. Good, bad, indifferent, I am not an uzi-toting, islamio-fascist, or a bad person. I am an american, born and raised in texas, raised a baptist, to a baptist preacher, who became Muslim 20 years ago, and I am sorry that MY country has been hurt this way, but please, dont attack my religion, just the people who are bad, okay? At least be fair.

He should apologize because at a time like this, he is only making matters worse. You cannot reason with sick, evil people, true, but to create further upheavel by repeating ignorant text is not correct either.
This isn't a time to make these people more upset. You'll never get an apology from evildoers-its time for you to face reality. However, as a civilized nation and civilized religions should take the higher road and if not the higher toad, then the smarter one and use caution when speaking like this-we are not dealing with normal people here,

If you would actually read the text, you would see what the pope did wrong. He used the quote to provide contrast between the so-called "evil" in Islam and the so=called "goodness of the Catholic church. If he was a rightous man, since his speech had to do with the Catholic religion, he should have spoken of the murder of the people the Catholics labeled Heretics. Or he could have spoken about how the native people of Latin America were not considered human unless they converted to Catholicism. Those who didn't were enslaved with the permission of the Catholic Church.
The pope did not have to look to another religion to find evil.

I don't think the Pope should apologize. He was reading from a text that was not original with him. I agree with you about not getting an apology from the Muslims for what their radicals did in 2001.
I believe sometimes that the media needs to get the cameras out of the faces of Muslims and not give them air time.

His quote and statement have turned out to be correct in light of the response by Muslims with no condemnation by leaders in the Muslim world of that response. If that makes them angry, we should give them lots to be angry about. Guess the truth really hurts them. Since they have such funny notions about women being covered and uneducated, we could probably draw some conclusions about their men. There must be many other things that would be true about them that they would not like to hear. Their response will help to identify them so their countrymen can deal with them. Criminal mob violence should not go unpunished.
There is so much bad in the world on all sides and times have changed since the Crusades and the Inquisition, but we cannot allow terrorist to attack everywhere in the world. The only way we can identify terrorist is if people all over the world have neighborhood watches to identify and report them to the police.

I'm not Catholic either, but I agree. He shouldn't apologize, but the world thinks he should because they would rather point a finger at him than face reality. It's amazing the lengths people go to to deceive themselves! He makes a true statement about the violent things that Muslims have done in the past and a true statement that no one (Christian or Muslim) should kill in the name of God, and the Muslims (who are offended because they claim to be peaceful) answer it with death threats to the Pope. How's that for irony?!

I think the Pope's statements were deliberately inflamatory and prove the Papacy is not infallible. Obviously he is not speaking for God ... why would God be trying to stir up trouble like that.
I agree he should not apologize for fear of a holy war.
He should apologize for the sake of the millions of muslims who are non-violent and understand that religious history is no longer relevant.
Perhaps the most disturbing for all people about the Pope's comments is that he believes ancient statements are still relevant today. Which reminds me of the views of Muslim extremists who use ancient words to defend their savage actions.

If you are wrong you are wrong and should apologize for your wrong doing. People think the pope is God's right hand man, but he is still mortal. I think the pope had nothing to do with this. If he did, an apology would be in order........a big one.

the majority of muslims have nothing to do with terrorism, they live peacefully and are generous and caring. the pope in his snobbery insulted THEM as well as the tiny minority of muslims who are extremists. what did the peaceful, law-abiding muslims do to the pope or anybody else to have their religion and way of life ridiculed, especially by a man who represents a faith whose history is not exactly virtuous either? the remarks were racist and hypocritical and damn right, the muslims deserve a sincere apology.
