Salvation isn't as easy as simply "accepting Christ into your heart" (a phrase that appears no where in the Bible). It isn't a one-time deal in the life of a Christian. In order to be saved, you must endure to the end. (Matthew 10:22, Matthew 24:13, Mark 13:13.) You must carry your cross and follow Jesus. (Matthew 10:38, Matthew 16:24-25, Mark 8:34, Luke 9:23, Luke 14:27). You must be baptized with water. (Mark 16:16, John 3:3-5 Titus 3:5, I Peter 3:20-21.) You must be a member in God's true church. (Acts 2:47). You must confess your sins. (James 5:16, I John 1:9). You must keep the commandments of God. (Matthew 5:19-20, Matthew 7:21). And you must eat the flesh and drink the blood of Jesus Christ. (John 6:51-58, I Corinthians 10:16, I Corinthians 11:23-29).
It's not a soundbite, it's not fit for a bumpersticker, but it's the truth. It's not easy either, it's the narrow gate that few find. But His burden is light and His yoke is sweet. With God's grace all things are possible, because yes indeed God so loved the world that He gave us Jesus so we could all be in Heaven!
Intellectually assenting to the proposition that Jesus is the Son of God and savior of the world is not enough for salvation. Even demons acknowledge that truth. It's necessary to believe in Jesus but belief alone isn't sufficient and the bible does not teach that it is either. People who only cite one part or verse from the bible and ignore the other things required for salvation don't do anyone any favors.

I'm excited that you are interested in learning about God's salvation. First off, I'll answer your Hitler question. Hitler was a man who did horrible things, obviously. But God says in the Bible that all sins are the same in his eyes. For example, cheating on a quiz is just the same as killing someone to Him. Being God, He is absolutely perfect, there is no sin in Him and He can't stand sin of any kind, no matter how bad or innocent it might be. The way a person gets saved is by believing in Jesus and that He came from heaven to die for our sins (because we are all sinners), so that that chasm of sin that was keeping us from getting close to God is bridged. By believing in Him, asking for forgiveness for our sins and by committing our lives to living for Him, He will give us His wonderful gift of salvation. This means that we get to go to heaven after we die, and that we can have a relationship with him. Nope, you don't have to do any physical thing to get into heave, although after you have been saved (it doesn't matter how long you have been), Jesus says we should be baptized, which is a physical symbol of dying to our old selves and becoming a new person in God. All you have to do to be forgiven is ask, God is always ready and waiting at the doors of your heart. He loves you so incredibly much. My grandfather only invited God into his life shortly before he died, and that didn't make a difference. He may have missed out on living his younger life as a Christian and reaping the many benefits, but I have full confidence that he is up in heaven right now. I hope that you will pray to God and become a Christian. If you do, welcome to the family!

Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Rom10:9
The only physical thing to do is say with your mouth, Lord Jesus. Thats it.
As for Hitler, God already knows who will be saved before they ask.

The beauty of God lies in his heart to forgive. When it comes to Hitler, yes, all he had to do was ask in the Lords name and he would have gone to heaven. But it is my feeling that since we are all judged by our works, he would have made it by the skim of his teeth. Perhaps receiving no other gifts or rewards God has to offer.

It is repentance and faith. Just asking for forgiveness and believing doesn't work. Let me explain:
Imagine that your in a court room, and your obviously guilty of committing a very serious crime, and you say to the judge "Your honor, I know I did wrong, please forgive me, I won't do it again.", is the judge just gonna let you go?? Of course not. see, you should be sorry, and you should never do it again, but justice still need to be satisfied, the punishment must still be paid. But thats what Jesus did for us, he took the punishment for us. In repsonse to that great sacrifice that God made for us, so that we wouldn't have to go to hell, God wants us to respond by repenting of our sins, that is confess and forsake them and ever do them again, and put our faith and trust in Christ alone.

Romans 10:9. It's that simple. God is no respector of persons. He will forgive whom He chooses to, and save whom He chooses to.

When you confess your sins and ask forgiveness with a true heart, he will forgive that's His grace. God judges us with the intent of our heart.

I understand that in order to be saved your life first needs to be in danger. We should open our eyes and see who around us needs to be saved and work towards their rescue. As the Talmud says, "to save one human life is the same as saving the whole world entire."
