We've considered tone/shock collars. What works? What doesn't. We are at our wits end. He is 3.5 years old and didn't do this when living in the city. We are no in the burbs, so new things he didn't get used to as a pup. He seems to bark at everything!!! Help.
Have you tried the Terminator 2 (delivers tone then shock only of tone did not work)?

Obviously I am very concerned about resorting to anything but "correction" but I was curious about anyone who has gone through this what their experience may be. Our pup is a great dog, very well trained in everything else (he is even "box" trained and can travel anywhere bc of it). In any event, if you have a serious well thought out reply then please so, otherwise leave your self-absorbed smart-*** comments to the side lines. I will report as abuse.

What does the weight have to do with it? I am asking about tone/shock collar experience---I am concerned about how that could hurt him based on his weight (the power).
We have tried:
+ Spray bottles
+ No Bark (which does work at times--but we aren't always here or in the same room which is why we want to change the bahavior).

I also have the same problem with my Maggie a Dauchie Terrier mix! We tried everything professional training shock collars, sonic sound collars, crates when we were away, chew toys, we even considered debarking her! Which is a surgical procedure which the vet either cuts or crushes their vocal cords! Which does not harm them in any way and does not STOP the barking but you cant barley hear the bark! It sound like a whisper! My Maggie weighs 12 lbs but weight doesn't really matter in this subject! Then i heard about the citronella collar which gently sprays a mist of citronella sent into their faces! Its totally harmless and works great! I used the shock collar for 6 months with no luck i tried the citronella and it 2 weeks and now she only barks when strangers are around! Its a great product and its not to expensive either! But you will have to refill the collar like every 2 days! The original box you buy it in does contain one refill bottle! So buy a few refill bottles if you do purchase one! I bought mine from MuttMart they have excellent costumer service and the shipping was incredibly fast! And best of all i got FREE shipping!

It might be something about the place that your at (like he didn't want to move) or there is another dog's scent in the house and only he can smell but, I guess trying to put him in small room for a short amount of time-like a punishment, they eventually get the hint. Or close her view to what she's barking at.
For me, most of the time I just try and recognize what she's barking at, and my toy poodle just goes off and does something else sometimes.
Hope that helps:)

Try spraying water in his face every time he starts barking, this sometimes work, and is less costly compared to a shock collar. Good Luck
