I have decided after 64 years of life, they can just about do anything they wish. The other day I was traveling down the highway at 70 mph and in the left lane. All of a sudden I looked to the left on a country road and saw a sheriff's car sitting at the highway. There was not a lane for him to enter (two lane divided highway), but he did anyway right in front of me which made me slam on my brakes and fall into the right lane. He wasn't going anywhere as I watched him travel down the left lane at about 45 mph.......when I went around him on the right, I just glared!!!

They are allowed if they have permission from the owner of the driveway, and in some states/counties/cities, they don't even need permission. And what are you going to sue for? For sitting there hoping to catch people breaking the law? You will not win a monetary settlement by suing a police officer who has not violated YOUR rights. Now, if you received a ticket, you may be able to get it dropped, but that's about it. Come on. Stop trying to find stupid reaons to sue people. That's what's putting this country in the toilet.

They may park on a drive way, but they can just as easy radar you while they are driving down the road. also remember that in most areas, while it looks like peoples yards, the first so many feet from the road up a persons drveway is still city right or way. Locally here it is about 6 to 8 feet from the road into the yard that is acually county or city property

If it isn't your driveway, why do you care?
More people are killed by traffic accidents every year than are murdered, raped and robbed, and you're worried about a cop doing his job trying to keep the people in his community safe by enforcing traffic laws. Obviously law was not your strong suite in school so I'll explain what a tort is.
Tort: Damage, injury, or a wrongful act done willfully, negligently, or in circumstances involving strict liability, but not involving breach of contract, for which a civil suit can be brought.
I he isn't doing the above, then you can't sue him, and you can't do nothing! Sorry.

No, there is nothing you can do unless the homeowner asks them to kindly leave their property. You can't sue an officer in civil court anyway.
I feel the same way you do, but if it's 3 in the morning, who else knows. Maybe the person even asked for the officer to sit in their driveway.
Sucks, I know - but they are the police? What are you going to do?>

The police are allowed to park in driveways to catch speeders. For all you know the driveway they were using was at the request of the homeowner who was tired of speeders on their street.
Just slow down and pay your fine.

Why is everyone so down on officers.....if you don't like police officers then don't call them when you're in trouble.....sigh.
Anyway, my guess is the homeowner asked the officer to check traffic and had complained of people doing excessive speeds on their street. It happens every day. However, most of the time we use a stealth radar that attaches to a tree or power pole. This records the conditions and the traffic data over a period of time and calculates what percentage of cars going down that street are within the speed limit and over the speed limit.

I dont think they can just block someones drive way so I doubt it was a drive way....um well he probably was just sitting there to slow people down.....75% of the time cops aren't even using their radar they are trying to get people to slow down.....btw a radar detector is a very good investment....$150 - $200 for a good one......$400 or so for a speeding ticket + insurance goes through the roof.
