This happens alot in depression and PTSD.
The pain gets their immediate attention off the massive inner pain.
It's horrible to feel so much pain and not have a physical reason for it.
If a person is so depressed because abuse has told them they are no good, the physical pain of cutting, i.e., makes one feel better, like it's a punishment/pain deserved

i felt that way when i was cutting myself, If i wasn't physically harming myself i was very anxious and restless.....and it has to do with depression...I would suggest talking to your doctor about it, because sooner or later your gonna find it really easy to start cutting on yourself which ends up leading to much worse. I finally found myself sitting in a hospital locked up for 4 days because i was cutting to help with those feelings and just couldn't stop myself, the cuts i was giving myself didn't affect me at all, my feelings weren't going away, i cut myself over 20 times and finally went for the wrists. Please get help now. I know you are probably thinking that's not gonna happen to me, but that's what i thought too.
