I jokingly call this my 'kangaroo pouch'...but it is not a joke at all...I am eating as I have always eaten with no more than 1500 calories a day...somedays much less...I hear reducing my calories is not wise...but I thought that healthy eating helps maintain your weight...so why are these fat cells all of a sudden in over drive and all the rest of the fat cells are in park??

As insulin production increases (as part of aging, unfortunately), insulin does its thing (tucking food into cells for fuel or long term storage) closest to its home (the pancreas). The pancreas is in the abdomen, and that might be why you are getting it there.

Check out www.hufa.org for more info on low blood sugar (that's what made me gain my weight), and check out the symptoms link. There is an article you can link to from there about overweight, that might prove helpful.

Short term, start eating 5-minute (old-fashioned) oatmeal at least 3 times a week. Great fiber, but also has a chemical that our bodies slow production of after age 30, that we need to slow down insulin production.

My ideas? Try to do 200 minutes of cardio a week. Remember fat does not turn into muscle, so you need to lose your fat while putting on muscle. Work hard, but don't over 60 minutes at a time. Do planks and other abs exercises on alternate days.

On training days, do 5-10 minutes of cardio to warm up, then do your weight training. Do 30 to 60 minutes more of cardio, then go home.

The best time to eat is just after your workout within an hour when your metabolism is raging. For your muscles, incorporate some isolated soy protein or whey protein. Whey is more potent but the soy tastes better!

Don't look at your scale as the be all and end all, but get a measuring tape to check your progress, and that will show more tangible results.

Read magazines like Shape, Womens Fitness, Fitness, etc to get tips and to stay motivated.

Good luck and stick at it. This plan has lost me 20 lbs in 12 weeks so far, just go for it!

I had the same thing happen to me. I was always flat in front until my late 20's. Have you tried to increase the amount of cardio you do? You don't have to cut calories, but you'll burn them. My other suggestion is doing core-strengthening exercises. Do a few extra crunches and that will help tone. Do those with the extra cardio and you'll burn and tone.

As we age, our muscle building hormones decrease and we must work harder to maintain our bodies, since muscles burn calories.
Only watching your calories is a sure way to get fatter slowly.
You need to be more active.
Make your husband give you 45 min per day to run 2 miles, 5-6 days per week.
Tell him its that or he needs to buy you bigger clothes every few months.

Baggy clothes hide one's body and encourage lounging around. So even if you're relaxing at home, wear fitted clothes to hold you on track.
