I'd like to have my wedding in the fall, I love the autumn colors. I was thinking about maybe the first or second week of October. I'd like it to be late enough so that there are some leaves on the trees left, but not too cold. Has anyone had a fall wedding in Chicago or a city with a similar climate? How did it work out?

I do a lot of Chicago weddings- and the 2nd weekend in October is about the latest you can go. You still have the bright leaves on the trees- but it can get rainy and windy.

Just make sure you have an indoor venue for backup.

Do it!

Though I'm having my wedding in the Chicago area in July, I've toyed with the idea of having it in the fall. Fall in Chicago is really a magical time, especially in the near west side/west suburbs like Oak Park and River Forest. I lived/worked in the area for a few years and fondly remember the colors of the foilage and more than ideal weather--just the right amount of sunshine along with the perfect temperature and humidity. I'm sure you won't regret having your special day in October. Not only are there endless options for environmental photography, autumn-themed invitations and settings, your guests will probably be more comfortable than those at a summer wedding.

I was the maid of honor for a wedding last October. It was actually the 29th so very close to halloween.
We had beautiful weather and an outdoor ceremony.
Red dresses with all the fall changing leaves in the trees behind us. It was amazing.
Got a little chilly at night, but that's chicago.
I've lived here all my life, and love the fall. GO FOR IT

Sounds like a great idea to me. I live in Chicago and fall is my favorite time of the year. Somewhere I read that September is the second most popular month for weddings, after June.

If you are looking for peak color, try for early to mid October.

My sister got married on October 15th (or was it the 14th?) and it was 85 degrees! Of course the church (ceremony) and hotel (reception) had turned off the A/C by then, and I'm wearing a black tuxedo.

We're in KC, and we're having the wedding in early October. The climate is similar, but I wouldn't have it after the 20th of October, just to be sure.

Ours is working out great. As long as you don't have it focused outdoors, you should be fine. Since the weather can be hot or cold here, we are having it indoors in a controlled climate. However, all of our pictures are outside in the leaves. :-)

I've never been married but I love Chicago. I think it would be a great place for a wedding, especially in the fall. Winter would be crazy, spring okay, and summer dreadful. Fall or spring sound like your best picks. Good luck!

I don't know about weddings but my daughter went to school in Chicago for the last 5years. October is wet and cold. If you are going to do Oct definitely do the 1st weekend.

Are you actually engaged or is this just a fantasy for some future time? Chicago weddings in the autumn can be beautiful or freezing cold and the closer you are to Lake Michigan, the colder it will be regardless of the air temperature. However, if you actually NOT engaged at this point and have no prospects, I would put off worrying about this aspect of your life for the time being.
