There were calls for the Pope's arrest in Turkey.. which obviously won't happen.
He quoted a 600 year old text that said Muslims use the sword to preach, or something along those lines.

Haven't heard the news today, but here's the summary:
The Pope was giving a speech in which he was trying to point out the differences in spreading faith through violence and spreading it through witnessing (or something to that effect). Problem is, he was quoting an old text which stated that Mohammed was evil and used the sword to spread the Islamic faith. He was actually trying to show how wrong it was, his point was that even back then there were sects of violence all over, in all religions. His main point was to show that Islam was a peaceful religion, but it got lost in the mayhem following that awful quote.
He didn't write the speech, one of his staff did, and they chose a very poor example to quote.

he said something about Islam and Muhammad without a deep study of Muhammad life. if he is fair, he also should say the good things about Muhammad, but No, he only focus on the negative side. at this sensitive time where muslims feel they r being insulted and attacked. he should take John Paul II as an example.

>he had referred to a dialogue on Christianity and Islam between Manuel Paleologus II, the 14th century Byzantine Christian emperor, and an educated Persian.
He said: “The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war. He said, and I quote, ‘Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached’.” <

More good stuff! Sorry I know exactly in my mind but can not tell the story. He said nothing that is NOT the TRUTH. But the subject (my view) was religious tolerence in muslim world.

It was totally freakin' confusing. So confusing that when you watch the news they can only summarize it.
