Katie Couric (evening news) had a guess speaker 9-18-06.

"FreeSpeech: Irshad Manji" Best-Selling Muslim Author Says: ' Pope Was Calling For A Dialogue With The Muslim World'

{{{ (CBS) As a faithful Muslim, I do not believe the pope should have apologized. I've read what’s been described as his inflammatory speech. Actually, he called for dialogue with the Muslim world. To ignore that larger context and to focus on a mere few words of the speech is like reducing the Koran, Islam's holy book, to its most bloodthirsty passages. We Muslims hate it when people do that. The hypocrisy of doing this to the pope stinks to high heaven.

Yet some Muslims have gone further. In the West Bank, churches have been firebombed. During a big protest in London, placards proclaimed "Islam will take Rome." In Somalia, a Catholic nun was murdered shortly after a Muslim cleric urged violence against the Vatican.

Coincidence? I think not.

And thinking is what the Quran encourages. It asks Muslims to reflect far more than to retaliate. Even if someone mocks your religion, the Koran says, walk away. Later, engage in dialogue. Wasn't that the pope's point?

We Muslims should remember that God told the Prophet Muhammad to "read." My advice to fellow Muslims: Read the pope's speech — in its entirety — and you'll see that his message of reason, reconciliation, and conversation would make him a better Muslim than most of us.

Now if only I could make him a feminist ... }}} <1>

Well, it was good to see a Muslim person who spoke reason. However, I fear that too many will not listen for sin fuels itself for it's lust for sin ... in this case, the sin is violence.

PS: The Pope is infallible when all the Bishops are gahtered together in a college to form opinion. Kinda like Pres. can't wage "War" unless "Congress" & "Senate" pass "War" resolution. <2>

Firstly, I think Catholics are incorrect in the position that the Pope is infallible. He is a human, same as the rest of us. There is nothing in the Bible that supports the position and in fact it runs counter to the notion of the closed canon.

Secondly, the Muslims do not so much hate logic as they hate anyone for any reason criticizing their faith or their culture. Even if what he said was true, which I think is is, it is seen as an insult to them and in he Arab culture, insults are often answered with violence.

The Pope's infallibility only applies to Church doctrine--formal teachings of the Church. It is only used to defend the Truth against heretics. It is no secret that popes in the past have sinfully brought shame to the Church as other members of the clergy still do today. They are human and as such are susceptable to sin.

Regarding the Pope's recent remarks--he was quoting someone else and the words used might not have been the most pleasant or diplomatic. Truth is--sometimes it is a harsh reality. We as Christians must defend the faith. It is our responsibility, let him do his job and lead the faithful away from false ideology!

My fellow Christians, this woman, Giggly Giraffe should be acknowledged, don't you think so? Such a level headed being, born out of logic and good reason. She should be considered as a future leader in the Islamic world but sadly they don't take women as an example for them to follow. They say there are good Muslims, so I say, if you good muslims are really there, listen to her and there will be peace because she is equivalent to real peace. I admire your answer GG.

Logic? Do you know what the hell logic is? How do you know the Pope is Infallible? Just because he's "supposed to be"? Give me a break. He was in the Hitler Youth for Christ sake. Yeah, that's infallible. Dumbass. No one, and nothing, is infallible. Quit believing everything everyone tells you. The Pope especially is flaud.

as others have stated - the pope is not infalliable in matters such as these. having a history as the Rcc does and having come away from the cruelty and vile, murderous behavior - who better then to point out -- you are doing now what you did then - you have neither grown nor changed.
Whats the phrase about he that doeth protest too much?!?
