If you were going to the FCI (462 Broadway) in NYC, and couldn't get student housing, where would you live? What neighborhood is Broadway in? I need something safe, affordable, and decent. I'm new from Arkansas, so I really have no idea.

That's a safe neighborhood but is very expensive. If you're a student, I'm guessing you don't have a huge budget, so you're better off finding some roommates and living in Brooklyn or Queens, which isn't really close but there are places in Brooklyn that would be only 15-20 minutes on the subway.

Generally you'll find housing just outside of manhattan to be much cheaper.

You'll also have to decide if you want to try to live with room mates or not.

If money is less of an object for you try anchornyc.com they have a great web site for apartment rentals. They're generally 1500 a month and up (and thats the LOW end)

If that number makes you howl, check out craigslist.

Some safe outter borough nieghborhoods include Astoria, Williamsburg, Park Slope, Forest Hills... but make sure to go to wherever you're going to live at night and see if there are people around and if you feel safe.

I'd recommend looking into a short term sublet on craigslist, so you can get a little more comfy with the city before you decide where to settle.

The subway system is excellent and you'll have no problem getting to school, it may take a little while though.

Anything in that area will be safe. You should be able to find affordable housing in Chinatown, which is right by there. It might not be nice... but it should be affordable. Otherwise try to find a place in the village or lower east side, or even in the financial district... you might find nicer places in those areas. You might also want to look in parts of Brooklyn which are close to the subway that you'd want to take into the city... like maybe near the F or the L trains.

Don't be afraid to come here, New York is really safe, seriously.

Check out Craig's list (www.craigslist.org). It's pretty good for NYC housing. Put "student" as one of your keywords, to see ads specifically targeting students. Broadway runs through the ENTIRE city, so know your area...looks like you're near the Greenwich Village/SoHo neighborhoods. Good luck!

Nearby housing could be in Tribecca, Village area.

Look on Craigs List or Backstage for listings. Realize, housing in NYC is a bit more than Arkansas

Good Luck
