I will follow your question closely for several reasons, but I want to say first, that I recently found out that my husband of almost 11 years cheated. He also engaged in an inappropriate relationship with another woman in the very beginning of our marriage too.
I discovered the most recent cheating in April and chose to file immediately. I was divorced May 19th.
Since then, he has been proclaiming he was confused, that he did not know what he had, and all that Hollywood jazz that we see and hear every day on television and in newspapers.
Most everyone will tell you, "Once a cheater, always a cheater" and while that may or may not be true, what matters most is your OWN feelings about whether or not you can forgive someone you love and trust so deeply after such a betrayl of trust.
I am still struggling to be honest. There are some days that I want to believe what he is telling me now, but images and doubts creep and sometimes just POP into my head engaging me back into doubt. This is agony and I think what happens when trust is lost. For this reason alone, I fear there really may be no hope for us, because if I cannot trust himt o go to work, go to the grocery store, or get on the computer, what kind of life am I going to live?
These are some of the things to consider.
I'm moving closer to forgiving him, but I just don't know if I will ever be able to forget enough to move forward with him. Does that make sense?
Think and pray real hard about this. Don't let anyone tell you how it is because every scenario and situation is different.
Always LOVE YOURSELF first.

I've given my ex too many chances for the past too years and come to find out, that he's cheated on me more than once. Once a cheater, always a cheater.

cheating is a serious character defect. It exhibits untrustworthiness, selfishnesss, and in this day and age lack of common sense. If i truly loved them they might get one more chance. but if it was a new relationship where i was not attached ,theyd be history.

I used to believe that I would give them one chance but since my past relationship, I would not give anyone a chance again. It seem like if you give them a chance they feel like they can do it again.

I'd agree with everyone here. Once a cheater, always a cheater. even if he never cheats again, he's considering it.
