the portion size at restaurants is like 4 times as large as the "one serving size" that it's supposed to be...!! can't they just lower the prices of the plates and serve less food?? i think most of us just finish what's on our plates "just cuz"!! :(

well money wise doesn't really bother me... instinct says "ooh, large portion, little price!" and we don't like "small portion, high price!" so i figure, why not just have smaller portions, less price, so no one really complains, u pay for what kinda portion u actually want to eat. once it's in front of ur face, most people don't have much control..

Not in the real fancy ones. They have the big plate and in the middle they have this little tiny portion on something and they do it up real fancy but when you're finished you're still starving and your pocket is a hundred less.
But you're right the medium restaurants just serve to big a portion and if you take a doggie bag, the next day it doesn't taste the same and it goes in the garbage, What a waste.

I like taking some food home to enjoy the dish a second time. I don't feel any obligation to eat the whole thing at one sitting. If I did, I'd get fat on curried rice noodles, mixed with meats and vegetables (hot singapore style mei fun) because the restaurant I go to gives you a dish that will feed 4 (or I can eat 4 times). Besides, cooking an ample portion might be easier to measure out and faster to dump in the cooking pot than a smaller dish would be.

Restaurants do not care about their customers health. If one restaurant serves a giant meal for cheap, then the others must to compete. If a person who is now used to a giant prtion sees a real "serving size" they would feel cheated. If you do not want a giant portion, order a lunch portion (usually 6 oz. for the main dish instead of the dinner's traditional 8 oz.) or an appetizer or two. This solution is usually cheaper too. Or, go with a friend and split your meal.

If they sold correct portions, they wouldn't have very many customers willing to come back. Now a days, there isn't to many places you can get a bang (plate full) for your $. Eat slow and stop when your feeling full..... then ask for a take home bag, you can eat the amout you want.
P.S. If they don't have doggie bags, don't go there again :)

correct portion????????
do you mean suggested serving size?
it would cost just as much if they gave you less
same wages
same overheads
food price is generally 25% of table price
thats why they have macdonalds
i'llbet you whinge about their prices too
p.s.IN AUSTRALIA IT IS ILLEGAL FOR A FOOD PLACE TO OFFER A TAKEHOME OPTION AT A SIT DOWN MEAL DUE TO VARIOUS HEALTH ISSUES i.e. temperature of food between restaurant and home
