Just wanted to get some info from people that are currently in the same position as my wife and I may be in soon. We are both from big military families so I know what its like to have parents in the service, need to know what it is like to have a spouse. Would also like to hear from Women as to what their experience has been like.

I don't mind women being in the military, I was just asking what women's experience is because this is a huge decision for anyone. I just want opinions from others (I can't be impartial with this) so that my wife can make an informed decision as to whether or not this is for her

My wife enlisted after I had been in for 4 years. She went in open electronics and ended up being an avionics tech. We knew that when she came in it would eventually mean separation. It's inevitable. She's spent a year in Korea. I had our kids by myself while she was gone. I've been deployed a few times and she's been alone with the kids. It's part of the lifestyle we chose so we have no issues with it. With both of us being enlisted we make a decent living but with only one military check it can be tight at times, especially when you are first starting out. We got through it and have made it a career for both of us. She's been in 11 years now and I've been in for 15. We have no complaints this far. Our kids are great, the job is alright and the security of a paycheck is nice. Can't ask for much more than that... Besides we enjoy being a military family.

Being a woman in the military is like being a dancer. Some of us are better at it than others, but the secret is just relaxing and getting into the rhythm. Military life moves with its own rhytm. She will have to adapt to that and so will you. The work itself is not the problem. It is the rhythm of time, of demands to be separate, and changes in where you live. Talk that over carefully. Expect separation. Realize that you will be something different from what you are now and that you will leave the familiar patterns of civilian life for a whole new set of timelines and rules.

I am a spouse. My husband is in the Air Force and I absolutely love it and he does too! He has been in for over 5 years now and has been deployed. We do have a child, and he understands that there are times that Daddy has to be gone... The benefits of the military greatly outweighs the downfalls of your spouse being gone every now and then. :0)

i'm a company believer that if somebody extremely desires to do something, then he/she will. because of the fact you're being supportive of the alternative she makes, i've got self belief she could ok no longer be constructive what she desires to do. With the contemporary Troop escalation, her worry may well be that she would be sent to Iraq. and she or he may well be superb, I very almost gurantee she'll be deployed faster or later. My son has already been two times.

When you say "join" do you mean "enlist"?
Unless she has a specialized skill or training and will be guaranteed a job and a post, I'd say "no".
A commission, the "yes" for sure.
If your wife just enlists in the USAF, at their mercy, she could wind up guarding a missle silo in the middle of Nowhere, North Dakota.

You can say "Goodbye" to your marriage if she joins the Air force. It just does not work out when the wife goes off in the military.

I was happy to defend my country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. I'm not willing to give up my life to fight in a war that the US started and no one can say why.
