I only know of one religious group that attempts to saturate every possible media source with the claim that THEIR religion is the "fastest growing in the USA", but strangely, the facts don't seem to agree with them...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_of_the_United_States#Religious_affiliation

Am I just not educated? Is my source lying? Is this a conspiracy?
What IS the fastest growing religion in the USA?
Please provide a reference to your source. Thanks

Ummm...I DID, research it...hence the provided reference. I could make a lead paint chip joke, but I'll be nice. ;)

ROFL @ mark
That is exactly the kind of erroneous self-serving unfounded claim I am talking about. I'm so glad he demonstrated it for all of us. Notice how he doesn't site a source reference?

STOP EATING LEAD PAINT CHIPS! THEY'RE BAD FOR YOU!!

The numbers sited in the demographics look about right from what I have seen. There are some groups missing, but all in all, they look right. Non-denominational religions are the fastest growing segment, but that encompasses allot of territory. There is not category for Pagan/Neo-Pagan/Earth Based Religions; I guess the consider them non-denominational.

Personally I would use caution about anything I read on wikipedia.....they just aren't an authority on everything although they may mean well.

Also, you have to take into consideration that a word such as nondenominational is not one church but actually thousands of individual little churches and so the statistic for that one is totally incorrect. The same is true for a lot of other statistics...they aren't one church but individual churches in each city that start up on their own. Each has its own way of interpreting the bible and worshipping. New churches are being formed everyday and they lump themselves into the catagory of nondenominational because they lack actual dogmas or beliefs and set standards.

Islam up to 9 /11
Islam gaining mass converts in US (quote from an evangelical Christian website) In America, where
There are an estimated 7 million followers, Islam is growing at a 6 percent annual clip. White Americans are the fastest-growing segment of U.S. Islam, and 80-85 percent of all U.S. Muslims consider themselves former Christians. If present trends continue, every major U.S. city will be predominantly Muslim by 2020 http://www.lifeway.com/lwc/article_main_page/0,1703,A%253D154720%2526M%253D200210,00.ht

Secularism: Atheism and Agnosticism. Non-religious (if that makes sense) spirituality is growing too. (making your own beliefs and not following a church doctrine.)

Atheist/Agnosticism and Buddhism. Why? Because as technology increases free thought and intelligence does as well.
