I just had a delivery guy complain that I only gave him a 20% tip for bringing my one bag of food to my door. I had to close the door on him to get him to go away. I called the restaurant to let them know what happened, and the woman told me that I needed to give him what he wanted. She said I should have given him 30%. I feel so cheap right now, and yet my brain is telling me...20% is what you're supposed to tip! Any thoughts?

i work in the restaurant business, an appropiate tip is 15%, anything above or beyound this means they went out of there way to SERVE you and therefore a bigger tip. I would not stop at just calling the store just once i would call back during the day to talk to the general manager with the name of the driver and the one on the phone who told you to tip them what they wanted. I would not order from this place again and tell everyone and god not to order from them as well. Besides you tip what you want its not a given

I agree with you that 20% is at the top end of the scale to tip. It is presumptuous to assume that you will get a tip and it is rude to request how much a customer should tip you. If this had happened to me, I would probably stop ordering from that restaurant and send a letter of explanation to the owner explaining what happened and why you are choosing not to patronize their establishment any longer. Do not beat yourself up over this. The delivery person was in the wrong as was the woman you spoke to on the phone. Giving a 20% tip to a rude delivery guy is very generous and not cheap at all.

If the restaurant says that you're supposed to give him a 15% tip, then that's standard. If the guy was rude, I would give him less and call the restaurant to explain why. But to give him 20% was very generous of you. And the guy wanted 30%? Screw him! That's not a good delivery guy. I would have that guy fired. If the food is that good, ask them to send another delivery guy next time so you don't have to deal with that prick. He has no right to complain over a tip that he thinks is too small. And for being rude...oh man would I love to meet this guy.

Tips are a bonus for the service you get. If the servor was rude and you felt no urge to reward the f---er, then by all means do not feel cheap or anything else. simply close the door and go on with your life. The standard tip at a resterant is 15% ,for delivery 20% is fair. Don't be such a pushover that somebody can make you feel bad that they can't retire off the service they provided you with.No matter how crappy it might have been.

Seriously, for delivery, 10% is entirely adequate.

A tip is supposed to be thanks for the service. A delivery person offers you very little service...they pick the stuff up off the counter, and puts it in the car, then shows up at your door.

I would reserve a 20% tip for someone who checked on me a few times during my meal...who brought me individual courses, and asked if he could refill my drink.

A 30% tip is simply ridiculous (really, do you ever give a 30% tip to anyone?).

If this young man had been at my door, I would have taken away ANY and ALL tip that I had originally given him. It's NEVER required, and it is entirely rude and inappropriate for him to say anything but thank you.

I recommend that you write a letter to the restaurant, complaining about this issue...You should copy the local newpaper's dining critic.

Please let everyone know who this company/restrauant/fast food place is - Name, address and phone number.

After all the things that I have seen food workers do to the product they sell, I have stopped ordering out.

Especially, if there is an employee that is discontinted. It is dangerous to order from that particuliar place again.

The bottom line is...... I hope you don't depend on home deliveries. Get off your bottom and fix your own food or pick it up yourself. If you are not disabled and can do this do it. Delivery drivers are doing this usually to make ends meet and proably don't care about the customer. I'm sorry for what happened to you and I would proably not tip at all under those circumstances.

The amount of a tip is decided by the customer. It should reflect what you deem is appropriate for the service you were provided. Those that expect a certain amount, no matter what level of service they provide, are setting themselves up for failure. Personally, I wouldn't even deal with that restaurant anymore. The old moto "The customer is always right" still applies. Those that don't follow it will be run out of business by those that do.

Oh this makes me so angry!!! I worked in the service industry and nothing gets my goat more than someone who EXPECTS a tip. Tips are for good service, and I truly believe that people should tip for that reason. If you don't provide good service, you should not give a tip.

30% seems very steep. Especially for someone driving it to your door. I wouldn't order from that place again, and I think you should talk to the manager or owner.

Speak with the owner or manager of the restaurant.....not someone who just so happens to answer the phone.......

They were both wrong to expect any tip; let alone a 30% one.....for delivery- wrong!

I wouldn't order any more food from that place!!!!

the two considered one of you have been incorrect. The term information actual is an acronym for 'To Insure instant provider'. regrettably, many people think of that's, and could be, a salary inclusion or supplement. Giving information could be completed purely while the provider is instant, precise, and completed in a expert way that keeps purchasers. no you would be able to sense that's necessary and on no account if the provider would not warrant it. the choice to be in a provider place is purely that---a call. If somebody would not like their place, that's constantly achieveable to alter it. it may take time and paintings, however the alternative is there. The transport persons behaviour would have led to me to touch the enterprise. i'd have advised them that the guy implied they needed extra funds from me as information and that i grew to become into offended. If there grew to become into no information or empathy, i does no longer patronize them any further. i'd additionally enable them to be responsive to the order grew to become into incomplete if fortune cookies are meant to be secure with the transport. Slamming the door did no longer something to alter the region.
