We are looking for budget, central clean (hotel) accom in HK in mid-October. Any suggestions on where we could look? What's a good price to pay for a couple on a joint budget of say £70-100 per night? Where/how can we book?

Consider the Tatami Hampton,
11 Changsha St., Monkok, Kowloon.
On the internet. You can only book on-line.

Check out Asiarooms.com as per below. The listing is for the Newton Hong Kong Hotel for about 90 GBP per nite. You can check further on your own. I looked for a hotel near the subway so you could get around Hong Kong and Kowloon more easily. Buy an Octopus card which now can be used to pay for subway fare and many other things, it is almost like a debit card. Asiarooms.com is a french company and I hear that refunds or credits are a little slow. I have not had to cancel.

I compared it to the rates HotelClub.com, it is a free membership site. They give you 3 percent credit towards your next trip. They had Newton Hong Kong Hotel for 97 GBP per night. This is a british company. They are pretty prompt with credits. I have had to cancel or change my reservation with them.

There are several Newton hotels in Hong Kong. I have not stayed in them but, have been in them and they seem clean. And the Newton Hong Kong Hotel is rates 3 stars out of 5.

Rates are higher for some reason in October. It was not easy finding the rate you wanted for that period. I used October 14 to October 21 as the test period.

Have a good trip and enjoy Hong Kong.

Very easy.
Search " HongKong Hotel" on Google, there are a lot of Hotel brokers offering discounted hotel in Hongkong, You will find their price is much better than you book directly from the hotel.
You can also have a look www.chinahotel.net or www.hotelclub.net

Kiwi's right for a decent budget hotel, but at the price you are willing to pay, you can definitely stay at an upscale place like the Metropark.
