My son is 14 months old. How do I know when he is old enough to train? He only started walking last week, so how long do I wait?

he will let you know when it is time for him to be potty trained. such as, wanting to wash his hands all the time, following you or anyone else in the house to the bathroom, and wanting to be changed right after going in his diaper.
you can buy him a potty chair now and sit him on it fully clothed when you go to the bathroom. do research for the potty chair before buying one cause some are better for boys then others (i had that problem). then when he shows more signs for it take the right steps slowly to potty train him.

one thing most people here haven't told you is that when you potty train a boy it is a 2 step process. you first start them out sitting down until he can control his bowel movements (usually around 2 1/2). then when he knows the difference in the feelings that he has to go pee or poop then you can start him on standin up. otherwise you may have a lot of accidents on the floor under him to clean up when done. i did this and it works. that is why it is harder to train a boy vs girl. and yes do use underwear and not pull ups (except for bed and naps). they are too much like a diaper. so they won't think they have to use the potty cause they are wearing a diaper/pull up.

good luck

He's not ready yet. But once your son hits 2 or 2 1/2, start introducing him to the potty. If you have an older child also, like 4 or 5 or 6, you can have him take his little brother to the bathroom with him, so he can not only see how it's done, but if he sees his big brother doing it, it will make him want to go like a big boy too. That's what worked for all three of my sons.

I have been sitting my son (22 1/2 months old) on the toilet since he was 16 months old. He has peed and pooped in the toilet many times but only with my help. I have to help him take off his pants, diaper, and help him wipe. Each time he tries, he receives a sticker. I also sing him a song, read him a potty book, or talk to him while he tries to go. I make it as fun as possible.

I have also tried letting him go around the house without a diaper, but not for long. Many people let their child go for a few days and this works for them after many messes.

I also have my son in training pants that help as well. He is able to feel the wetness

I am in the process of potty training my little boy as we speak. He is 2 1/2. I had asked his pediatrician about it and he told me that boys are usually older when they potty train. He said to wait until he started telling me that he had gone in his diaper. Then the Dr. said to give him the responsibility of getting the diaper and wipes and bringing them to me. I did all of that and then we started using the potty chair just last week. He has not had a #1 accident in his pant but he will not go #2 on the potty.

My little girl started right before she turned 2! when he tells you that he went pee or poop in his diaper and wants u to change it then it's time to start training! To save you money don't start with pull ups there just a waste of time! Start with underwear when they pee in them it feels very uncomfortable to them and he'll want to go on the potty!! My daughter had 4 or 5 accidents within a 3 day peorid and she was potty trained!! But watch out because boys are harder to potty train then girls!!!!

It is always okay to let him sit on the potty to go pee if you have the time, but I have heard most babies don't start training until after 18 months and for me it was closer to 3...

You wait till he is at least 2, and preferable 2 1/2. You watch for him to be able to say "potty", to be able to pull his pants up and down, to be able to climb on and off a potty without assistance. It's way too early, enjoy the ease of diapers a while longer.

You wait until he is ready, he will give you little hints and let you know. Let him go to the restroom with his father, that way he sees what to do. If you have a potty chair, sit him on it before you put him in the bath and after you take him out, and then gradually go to when he gets up and before he goes to bed. Then when he starts wanting to go, put him in underwear all of the time, dont do pullups, if he likes the feeling of underwear he will not want to wet in them and have the wetness on him.

14 months is early - especially for a boy. Wait until he shows some signs of being ready such as pulling down his pants, telling you that he did "pee-pee" or "poopy" and wanting to be changed. Let him watch mommy or daddy in the bathroom and he'll want to do the same.
