I admit it, I smoke. Is it a sin, or just a bad habit?

Just cigarettes, and occaisonal cigar. Nor weed, or anything like that! Sorry, if I confused people.

It's not addressed in scripture, and the evidence about second-hand smoking is just plain silly. I'd say so long as you are a polite smoker the only thing you have to worry about is your own personal health.

there are two types of sin. the type that is a sin no matter what such as witch craft, sex outside of marriage, etc (things actually named in the bible as being sin) and there is the type that is a sin only to certain people. smoking applys to the second type. if you are addicted to it and it interferes with your worship of God, then it is a sin. but if you smoke and it doesn't interfere, then it is not a sin. However, this is only with ciggarettes and cigars. Weed and other drugs are a sin because they are against the law. It states in the bible that we are to obey the laws of man.

cigarettes? no, actually. Some churches might tell you so, but in all of canon law there is nothing against smoking cigarettes. It's just a negative vice.

If your talking about herb, well, I don't really know. I've never gotten a clear answer and I refuse to ask a priest. I just don't do it. Maybe the next time I smoke (which will be...months? years? never?) I'll ask.

It is a bad habit, smoking isn't mentioned anywhere in the Bible, although it does say to take care of the temple (our body), but there is no commandment or any other mention of it. The same people that are down on smokers, also drink, and the Bible does talk about overindulging alcohol.

Yes it is a sin. The Bible says that we should treat our body like a temple. But God is the only one who can hold you to your sins.

Lots of people smoke. The answer is, it isn't mentioned in the Bible specifically, but it's in there if your understanding and your conscience includes it. Explicitly mentioned are the concepts of your body being a temple (you don't want to defile it) and of God being the only God you should worship (serve). So, with those in mind, if smoking is a god you serve, you should stop. If smoking is defiling the temple which is your body, you should stop. But many Christians find themselves unable to stop, even with prayer and fasting and all that spiritual discipline stuff. It's tough to stop any bad habit. But it's better for you. Pray hard for deliverance.

who is the creator of nicotine? it is a gift from god. everything in moderation and perspective is ok. but every good thing get perverted and smoking 4 packs a day is not part of god's plan for your life. you are just supporting corrupt cigarette companies.

but don't you hate it when fat religious people tell u that u have to honor your body to god as a temple and stop smoking and drinking. i tell them stop eating krispy cremes and burger king and get off the couch and onto the treadmill periodically.

Smoking is destructive and can cause others to develop cancer as well as yourself. I believe that this violates "Thou shalt not kill". Your body is the temple of the Lord, so we should try to preserve that temple and treat it well.

It is not a sin in the sense that you deserve eternal punishment.

But if you smoke on a regular basis you are damaging your body, which is a sin against the self.

Don't worry God will not punish you but will allow karma to do its job and teach you, that is if you are willing to learn.
