We are ex-citizens of Britain, and when we moved to Canada, we brought our PAL TV, so we could play our PS2. We then bought the cheapest Canadian NTSC DVD player we could find. It's a Diamond Vision. We now have another DVD player, so the cheap one went onto the PAL TV (with a transformer, so it does switch on). For some reason we only get a black-and-white picture. This is the only channel we get a picture on, but we do get sound. The cables are all in their colour-coded ports, and we're stumped.

BTW, the television is an Aiwa.

Thanks.

NTSC and PAL video systems are not compatible. Mixing these systems will sometimes allow you to watch a black and white picture but to get color you will need to use an NTSC TV/monitor with your NTSC player.

1963! Good year, good answer. PAL and NTSC are not compatible. You need a PAL, or multisystem DVD if you want to use on on your British TV.
And congratulations on your excellent good taste, for being British, and for moving to Canada.
