Immerse Yourself In The Language. Immerse Yourself In The Culture. Talk to Spanish people, and tell them "despacio por favor". Travel to Spanish speaking countries. Watch Spanish television. Get a Spanish to English Vocabulary book and read it from a-z!! Use only Spanish when speaking and see what happens. Take a Conversational Spanish class, and do well! Finally, USE WHAT YOU LEARN or else you'll forget it. My mom and dad speak spanish and when they tried to teach me I had already learned English so I would say, "What are you saying, Daddy?" But after years of hearing people around me speak Spanish, I realize now I know more than I give myself credit for. The key is vocabulary and sentence structure.

There are so many answers to this question. A Spanish Interactive CD, A beginner's book to Spanish, College-Spanish courses. Of course Spanish speaking friends could help. The level really depends on what level of Spanish you already speak.
There's more to speaking Spanish than saying phrases/the right words. You need to learn the alphabets, numbers, sentences, verbs, adjectives, and more. You need to learn how to put it all together, and then some. Learning the culture really shows interest! So if you're serious, jump all in! Also there are plenty of Spanish speaking chat rooms you could observe, maybe meet a friend/tutor. There may be cultural events for the Spanish speaking community in your city as well, check it out, go and mingle. It couldn't hurt. I first recommend the CD since you can hear it being spoken, and hear your own progress. But you still need the Book, and maybe College courses - if you're really serious! Good luck!

I am teaching myself with a book "Learning Spanish The Lazy Way" from Borders. It is fun and easy to learn this language in the way it is presented. The author has a sense of humor. Then I practice on Spanish/English speaking friends.

Perhaps you can find someone to help you with your Spanish, in exchange for helping them with their English. Best wishes.

Schooling will help with the basics and beyond. There's nothing better though then spending time with those that speak Spanish for the majority of the time. Go to those Latin dance clubs would be a good start.

Going through the same thing and I'm horrible at it. I'd either get a Hispanic boyfriend/girlfriend haha no actually just study really hard. Take extra time and make flashcards for each of the words. Even though I'm horrible at Spanish, I still can improve a little with the help of flashcards.

Study Spanish grammar and conversation books. Take classes too if you can afford them. Label everything in your house and car, etc. with their Spanish names. Make flashcards and quiz yourself with them several times a day. Then most importantly, live in a Spanish-speaking country for at least a year.

linguaphone is cool but the best is to go to Spain or to a Spanish speaking country that way you are surrounded by Spanish. that way you will learn loads of vocab without even noticing. good luck and stick to it cause picking up any language is difficult.
