I absoultley love LOVE my black lab Zoey. She is sooo great. But latley she's been jumping up on me and when I pull up she runs and jumps on the car. There are now scrathes all over it and my dad kicked her because she did this.
I don't want her to be like this, she needs some manners, any tips? She's 7 months old, spayed, knows sit and shake.

We live on a mountain so she get's ALOT of exercise. She runs laps around the house like, 150 times a day.
My dad was tryin' to get her off the car.

I have a yellow Lab that I absolutely adore even when he gets hyper. He is just a little over a year, so its still pretty fresh in mind, his young puppy years. It took a good deal of time and training to get him to where he is now. But I did eventually turn to the remote electric training collar for help. Labs are very loving and affectionate dogs who get a little carried away at times, my hardest time controling him was when I got home or people came over to visit. He was well trained in all his commands but his excitment would over ride his training. The remote training collar operates like the electric fence collars except you hold the control. I was apprehensive about using it but he only got shocked twice at the lowest setting and now he only needs the warning. The collar helped him to stay focused and realize everything was not a game. The more time you spend with her the better she will become. The more you work on basic commands the better off you will be. Spend time continously going over the commands and spend a lot of time on leash work. Don't let her get to the car to scratch it. And when she jumps up to greet you tell her in a stern voice down. I started bending down to greet my dog, which eliminated his desire to jump. I also did a lot of practice greetings. A lot times I turned from him and told him to sit. If he listened I would give him a treat but would not acknowledge him until he did. Stick with it and be persistent. The more time you put into it the better dog you will have at the end. Labs are highly intelligent they just need direction and lots of exercise.

At 7 months old she is still a puppy, just like a baby. She has to be taught what is expected of her and kicking her is definitely not the right way to go. Take her to a training class, Petsmart has classes that are cheap and very effective. Your dog will not do what you want unless you teach her what to do. It doesn't just magically come into their head, they need lots of guidance. All the work you put in now in training will pay off for many years to come. Labs are great and obedient dogs just give her a chance to learn what she is supposed to do. Also be sure to socialize her with other dogs so she knows how to behave when others dogs are around. Good luck.

There is no such thing as a Lab that won't listen,, your puppy just needs to be taught HOW to listen. Right now you are only making noise.
It should be no surprise to you that training is the proper answer.
The reason that many would suggest enrolling her in an O/B class IS NOT TO TRAIN YOUR DOG,, but rather it is to TRAIN YOU how to train your dog.
None of us ever learned how to train our dogs through osmoses.
Go to the library, they have a gazillion books about training dogs, look on line there are even more sites that deal with dog training than there are books in the library. But if YOU never do something, the dog will never learn.

With her energy level, it would be good to make sure she is getting proper excercise during the day. Also, her jumping on you is their way to greet, but they should know it isn't tolerated. There are things you can do if she is jumping on you. You can ignore her or walk into her where she jumps on you w/o making eye contact. Don't use your hands to push her off, she will only think you are playing. Also, if she knows sit, make her sit when she starts jumping and bend over with her, that way she can see you on her level. You might need to hold her down by the collar to make sure she stays in her sit and not jump. As for jumping on the car, best thing for that is to have her contained when you drive up, either in the house, in a crate, or on a leash/tether.

She is still a puppy. She is doing pretty good with knowing Sit and Shake already.
The best tool for teaching baby critters not to do things is a loud, firm, "NO!" Use it when she jumps on the car. Another word that can be used is "Down!". Our family uses it to make the dogs move when we need to use the sofa or one of the chairs.
Good luck!

she needs training properly like at obedience classes. Your dad is a cruel man and has actually broken the law by kicking her. Tell him that brute force and ignorance is not a recognised training method. Anyone who kicks a 7 months old baby wants a slap .

the first person said petsmart, don't go there for training, they are not qualified enough to train dogs, take it somewhere where they have a good reputation.
Training might help, but be patient, she will grow out of being so hyper.
Your dad should not hit the animal they do not learn from being hurt, and its cruel

Yeah good luck with that! They stay in the puppy stage about 2 years my suggestion is take her to Petsmart and enroll in classes. They are $99 and work. A dog park is really good to let her expend energy so she won't be so hyper.

she sound's very smart but labs need lots of exercise because they get bored very easily..take her outside with her favorite toy for a game of fetch also, walk her everyday even if it is for 10minutes..reward her when she does something good..but scold with a firm voice when misbehaving, never hit a dog they will be afaid of people if this continues,,,
