People don't have souls,

People are souls.

Difference in being an elephant and having an elephant

if the soul is something separate and distinct from the person? Gen 2:7 NIV

2a.Why does Jesus say it can be destroyed? (Matt. 10:28)

3.If a man’s soul lives on after death – Why do man’s thoughts perish at death?
(Ps. 146:4; Eccl. 9:5,10)

4.What happens to a man’s soul when his spirit returns to God?

5.Why does the “New Encyclopedia Britannica” say that the Hebrew and Greek word for soul really means animated beings both human and non human. So Animals are souls (Breathers). (Gen. 1:20, 21, 24, 25; Lev 24:17, 18)

“The Hebrew term for ‘soul’ (nefesh, that which breathes) was used by Moses . . . , signifying an ‘animated being’ and applicable equally to nonhuman beings. . . . New Testament usage of psyche (‘soul’) was comparable to nefesh.”—The New Encyclopædia Britannica (1976), Macropædia, Vol. 15, p. 152.

6.Why does the “New Catholic Encyclopedia” state that the word soul never means a soul as distinct from the body or the individual person.

“There is no dichotomy [division] of body and soul in the O[ld] T[estament]. The Israelite saw things concretely, in their totality, and thus he considered men as persons and not as composites. The term nepeš [ne´phesh], though translated by our word soul, never means soul as distinct from the body or the individual person. . . . The term [psy•khe´] is the N[ew] T[estament] word corresponding with nepeš. It can mean the principle of life, life itself, or the living being.”—New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967), Vol. XIII, pp. 449, 450.

7.Please note “Immortality of the soul is a Greek notion formed in ancient mystery cults and elaborated by the philosopher Plato.” —Presbyterian Life, May 1, 1970, p. 35.

8.What was the original lie? (Gen 3:4) “You will not die.” if you disobey God.
The immortality of the soul concept says “You will not die if you disobey God.
Your immortal soul lives on someplace.”

So in reality the immortal soul idea is a teaching of Plato and not Jesus (#2a & 7)

The soul is the person, the individual being who breaths, thinks, eats and dies. (#1a & 2)

For a soul/person to live again God must resurrect that person (soul) to life again. (Acts 24:15)

Everyone IS a soul. All humans and animals are living souls. We do not posess a soul, we are one. Spirit is the energy that makes us alive. The soul dies. It is not immortal. The bible teaches that death is the end of life, not a continuation. To teach otherwise is to believe the first lie ever told by Satan, to Eve, in the Garden of Eden.

There are 2 things that you need in order to exist. That is breath and a soul (body). So yes, each of us has a soul. "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7

Everyone has a soul, it is the essence of your being, it makes you who you are. The soul is your life force energy, without a soul you would not be alive, breathing, able to think or do anything.

The human soul, therefore, is the ultimate interior principle by which man lives, and is the indispensable source from which all his human operations flow, namely: (of the body) nutrition, growth, reproduction and local motion; (of the soul) the spiritual activities by which we know and understand truth, reason to new truths, and make judgments as to what is right and wrong. In all these functions of the intellect we mirror the all-wise and all-knowing God. The other spiritual power of the soul is that of the will by which we deliberately and freely choose to act or not to act - in which we mirror the infinite freedom that God possesses.

Christians have a totally whacky idea of what the 'soul' is supposed to be. For the Jews of that time... including Jesus... the 'soul' was an enveloping emanation from the godhead that resulted from the community's relationship with god. The soul as a component of a human being (Christian view) is an artifact of Greek thinking on 'dualism'... which was incorporated into Christian dogma and lore by Gentile theologians, who were ignorant of Jewish (and Jesus') concept of 'soul'.

So... apart from the fact that all of this stuff is mythological nonsense, anyway... everyone's worries about what happens to their personal 'soul' are of no consequence... it does not exist.

Gen 2:7. We are the soul, however we also have a spirit which is the breath that God has given us all. If you are referring to,say, an evil person that they seem not to be in possession of a 'soul', it is because they have seared their conscience.

All people are born with souls. That is what will go to heaven or hell. Your bodies go into the ground, but your soul lives forever.

First responder's query is right on the mark. I claim that there is no such thing as a soul, separate or separable from the body; can you show me any evidence whatsoever that that is not true? (Note: excerpts from religous texts do not qualify unless you can independently establish the validity of any that are used.)
