I don't know about the police in your area but I have a great deal of respect for the "boys in blue" since they serve and protect. So why all the hate?

I live just outside of Milwaukee, and many people on the North side hate cops. (that's the bad part of town.) Several Milwaukee people do not trust the police, especially after what happened with the Frank Jude case. Don't know if you heard of Frank Jude, Jr., but a few years ago, some off-duty cops got a little drunk and when Jude provoked them, the cops beat his face into a hamburger.
During the trials, there was this "code of silence," and when one cop finally had the guts to tell the truth about what she saw that night, she got a lot of heat from her coworkers- up to the point that when she called for backup on a night shift, no one answered. And because the DA made a mess of prosecuting the cops who beat Jude, the jury declared them not guilty. So... you can just imagine the feedback that got. :-/
There have also been other accusations of cop beatings in Milwaukee.

Don't get me wrong- there are many fine men and women in the Milwaukee Police Department; we know one, in fact, and I'm sure he does his job very well. He certainly would not have gone overboard like the incident with Jude. But we had a lousy police chief for many years, and now we got this Jude incident, which has destroyed some Milwaukeeans' faith in the police department.

Things like this can be extremely detrimental to the respect that one has for the police.

I guess it depends where you live. Where I live the percentage of police that are corrupt is unusually high. So, there's not much respect for them. I think there would be less corruption if they were paid better. I think being a police officer is a highly stressful job to begin with......and I believe they don't get help in dealing with the stress. How many jobs provide the potentiality of being killed that day?

It is a shame that people gripe about police. With out them as part of our bureacratic structure it would be anarchy. Think about it: Someone slams into your car, destroys it, drives off. No police, no social infrastructure, just you, your injuries, and wrecked vehicle.

If you don't like police maybe you should move to Iraq. It seems that they handle pretty smoothly without social infrastructure. If someone hits your car, you can strap dynomite to your chest and blow up thier church.

It's from those who live on the edge and stand up against the police. They challenge the police, so they get what they ask for.

I think only a few irrational people 'hate' the police but there is a lot of anti-police sentiment because of the stupid laws they are having to enforce. I think it was the Duke of Wellington who said,'A bad law should be enforced to the hilt'.

It's left-over nonsense from the 1960s when white, left-wing college students bought into the black nationalist canard that the police were among their "enemies".

Of course, these same ninnies are in favor of gun "control" - which would leave citizens completely dependent upon the police in the event you come home to find predators in your home.

So - the police are "bad" but we're gonna be VERY heavily dependent upon them in the event the predators show up.

Bizarre, no?

i admit it... i am afraid of the police. grateful, respectful and very proud... but i am afraid of them all the same.

the county i live in did something really inspired, the fire department and the police are the same people. that makes a huge difference in how i think of them. a police officer can either save you or haul you away... but it's easier to love him when you know he might come carry you out of a burning building!

Don't worry, it is just that many paroles have just gotten out and want to blame the cops that busted them for the time they did.

Bad boys, bad boys, what ya gonna do, what ya gonna do when they come for you.

LOL
