I guess the real question is whether or not I can play a burned CD, with .mp3 formatted songs, in my car's CD player. What is the difference in the formats? I am rather new to this aspect of computing, been out of the PC game for a while.

CD audio files are usually .WAV or .WMA files. (WMAs are basically copyright protected WAVs.)

Some car stereos can play MP3 as well. All you can do is try it and see. It wont hurt your cd player to try.
