Your RIGHTS as an American Citizen protects you from illegal search and seizure in the foruth ammendmenet of the constitution. You need to call a lawyer because what they did is not OK. They do need a search warrant. Benjamin Franklin said Those who would give up freedoms for security deserve neither.

It doesn't sound like that big a deal; they just asked you some questions, had a quick look around, then left. If it was my house and they were investigating a crime, I would have no problem with it.
Best thing to do when that happens is just to cooperate- do NOT act like you have something to hide. If you do that, you'll only cause more trouble for yourself.
If this really upsets you, you could go to the police chief and ask him about your rights. But I don't think it's too serious.

As much as you should cooperate, they still searched your house without a warrant, and last I knew, that's against the law (searching a house without a warrant) No matter what, I'm pretty sure you always need a warrant. I suggest putting a webcam or some other recording device near your phone or something to see if you don't see who else DOES use your phone.

You don't do anything. You were asked some questions, you answered them, case closed. If you were the one who had been affected by the crime wouldn't you want the police to do everything they could do to solve the crime? No harm has been done here.

Go see the Police Chief and politely explain the situation and your side. If you go in with a 'chip on your shoulder', things will probably go differently.
