Martial arts is the result of what worked in real life situations. Like any other competetive physical activity knowledge is passed on from generation to generation on what worked. Martial arts is not just memorizing movements, at least not real martial arts, it is learning the knowledge and skill behind the movements. You are not going to learn anything about martial arts from asking written questions, any more than you can ask questions over the Internet as your sole source of learning how to drive a car.

Martial arts have been passed down from those who first learned it and taught others since as far back as the 16th century, they were used in fighting when most people during that time had no weapons or when a soldier was trained to defend himself when his weapon was lost in combat.
as you progress you'll learn what works and what doesn't and what you can use from what you've learned.
Bruce Lee invented the Martial Art Jeet Kune Do, but that came about from studying Wing Chun first, and studying the fighting disciplines of many other types of Martial Arts and fighting disciplines in the world for several years, and by taking what he learned from each discipline he used what worked and discarded what didn't work for him.
but keep practicing and you'll see what we're talking about.

Of course all martial arts are made up - just like poems are made up or chess openings are made up. The proof is in the benefit to the user. If they enable you to control your mind and body better then they work.

Experience is how you would know. When you get older and have more experience with martial arts, and have taken the time to visit many other schools (gone to a few tournaments and seminars) and study other styles, you will learn how to tell when they are traditional, mixed, or just faking it.

research the work of the legendary Bruce Lee, he offers us the advise that things that don't work must be cast aside to leave the very best of the working martial art what every you may call it or how it plays out for the individual

It is all made up. Someone, somewhere, at some point had to come up with it. What makes them effective is how often you perform them and how much dedication you have to it.
