I certainly hope so. I consume a lot of it. It has a bit of an aftertaste but, once you get used to it, it is pretty good. I prefer it to Nutrasweet.

Do any of us know how safe a product is that is man made? I do like Splenda much more than any other sweetener. The Splenda Brown Sugar is great as well. I am a diabetic so Splenda is used exclusively. The baking Splenda is good also.

NutraSweet/Aspartame is made from an amino acid. It is chemically altered so it is only slightly different than the completely safe amino acid L-Phenylalanine, in fact we can't live without it. In Europe, this amino acid is even prescribed for certain conditions. Aspartame has generally been regarded as safe in the past. With it's debut in the mid 1980's it seemed like a miracle! No calories???
After years the problems cropped up, finally the public caught on to the fact that NutraSweet causes a host of medical/mental problems.
SPLENDA is an altered form of sugar. Sugar is safe in moderation, we can't live without some form of it. SPLENDA is a relatively new product. It could be years before the problems crop up. Time will tell.

Splenda is perfectly safe. In fact, the reason it's calorie-free is that your body is unable to digest it, so it just passes through your system. Same idea as Olestra, but it doesn't cause the runs :) I doubt that anything that isn't metabolized will get into your body and cause you any harm.

As for people who say anything "chemical" is bad, they are completely ignorant about the nature of chemistry. EVERYTHING is chemical and just because it comes from an artificial source doesn't mean it's any worse for you than something that nature produces. For example, the botulism toxin is the most poisonous substance on earth, and it's completely "natural." E-coli? Natural. All these people need to get a grip or a crash course on real science.

As far as I know, Splenda is safe, and it does taste very good. It's a lot sweeter than just regular sugar so you don't need as much. My mother who is diabetic makes a Splenda chocolate cake that is Fabulous and moist.

Splenda is sucralose. It's manufactured by the selective chlorination of sucrose, which is what table sugar is. Whether or not it's good for you or safe, is another question entirely. The links below are for some people who claim it's not because of the chemical alteration necessary to turn sucrose into sucralose. But hey, we all gotta die from something sometime!

Splenda is modified sugar. While you can likely find arguments both ways, there is no correct answer for your question. You are not going to find any product that is 100% safe. You can choke on water.

To date I don't think there have been any major problems with Splenda, but of course it's a relatively new product. I personally don't like it because I'm wary of artificial sweeteners but I've tried it and the "fake sugar" aftertaste isn't as strong.

I prefer it to other artificial sweeteners and have to use it when I cook because of a diabetic family member. It doesn't have the funky aftertaste of Nutrasweet and some of the other sugar substitutes, and it works well for baking in most cases.

"Safe" is a relative term, however. Safer than a diabetic coma? Probably. Safer than any other agent suspected of having carcenogenic properties, including most of what we already eat? Well, you pays your money and you takes your chances.
