Are you scarred? Did the dog nip you or did he take a chunk out of you? How bad is the disfigurement? Did it take a hospital visit?
If you think the dog is dangerous, you should urge the guy to do something about it. If he doesn't, tell the local police. They might not do anything, but if the dog bites anyone else, they can start considering the animal a dangerous animal and take steps.
But unless you have some sort of permanent injury or huge medical expenses from the bite, then a lawsuit is inappropriate and petty.

Were you seriously hurt? Did the dog rip you apart? Did he just stand there and watch? Did he appologize and seem to mean it? Do you want to cause much misery and grief over an accident, for both of you?
