My son had leukemia 2 years ago and i have a lot of information about that condition, right now he just finished his chemotherapy and he is doing very well.. how can I help you? what do you need to know?

Having a new diagnosis of leukemia is devastating, and the first stages of the treatment are very hard for the kids and for the family, my son had amost 4 years old when he was diagnosed, but after a month of chemotherapy 95% of the patients get into remission and then the chemotherapy is not so hard anymore.. if you want me to e mail your family, maybe telling them about my son and all the kids with leukemia i know that are doing so well or just send you the information i have, please, feel free to contact me, it would make me very happy being able to help. And please, dont feel sad or discouraged, childhood leukemia is one of the cancers with the best curation rate... good luck and hope to hear from you.

There is a Foundation called Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation. Just contact them and they can send you books that help explain everything for both children and adults.Three of the books are Chemo,Craziness & Comfort My book about childhood cancer(good for kids); Educating the Child with Cancer a Guide for Parents and Teachers; Know Before You Go: The Childhood Cancer Journey.

The books are free. Their website is www.candlelighters.org
or call 800-366-2223.

Don't treat him any different then you have in the past(yes there will be minor changes) and answer him truthfully when he asks questions. My daughter is going thru this(she has ALL(Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). So you are not alone.....Good Luck.

My granddaughter has retinoblastoma.......... i always do searches on questions I have about her cancer. I found this link that might give you an idea or two on discussing this with the children. Support groups are always helpful as well.
