It didn't hit my pup until about 3 am on a Wed. morning. I couldn't do a thing until the vet opened, and then had to wait for them to schedule me in at a time when no other pets would be there in order to help prevent the exposure of parvo.
Sure, I could have taken him to an ER Vet Hospital at 3 am, but who has THAT kind of $$$???? Not me. I love my dogs and have them vaccinated and treated regulary at MY vet, but I just can't afford ER visits, and I'm sure most here would agree!
Don't let people's comments stress you. You know what you can and can't do and how soon your schedule ALLOWS you to do things.
Good luck.
