I just got engaged on Sunday and was wondering when people usually have an engagement party?

you can have it whenever you want! Closer to the engagement is best, since you will be having showers and a bachelorette party closer to the wedding date....
Have one soon, while you and your friends and family are still super excited...before the stress of planning the wedding sets in!
Congrats!!!

Here's the thing, most people don't know what an engagement party really is. An engagement party is supposed to be the affair when your engagement is announced to your friends and family (except for your immediate family who should already know). Most people have started using an engagement party as an excuse for gifts since everyone invited already knows, which is just tacky. You don't have an engagement party if everyone already knows your engaged. That said, traditionally the bride's parents host and pay for an engagement party. The bride's mother sends out invites to a dinner party or barbeque or luncheon, whatever type of party it's going to be. The bride's father announces the engagement at some point during the beginning of the party.

The normal time frame is no later then 5 months after the engagement and a minimum of 6 months before the wedding.

You want to allow at least 6 months to give you time to write out thank-you cards before being overwhelmed with wedding details.

You can have it as soon has you want it really. Just be prepared because everyone will be asking you about the wedding.

Congratulations and best wishes for many happy years together!

The engagement party should be held closer to the engagement than the wedding. More than a few months is probably too long.

We gave an engagement party for our daughter last year when she got engaged. We only invited family and very close friends(about 50 people) had a casual lunch and really just got to know each other(the families). They got a few small gifts, like their toasting flutes from her grandmother. It was really just an excuse for the families to get to know each other.

Usually about a month or two cause you have to send out an invitation. If it's just your family, maybe in the next 2 weeks or so to plan the party.

If it extremely is a social gathering just to have fun their engagement, it may happen any time between now and the marriage. purely like numerous different social gathering, yet understanding the concentration is on the couple's engagement. To my be attentive to-how, maximum engagement events are used to announce the engagement to others -- like kinfolk and close pals. that's what I study whilst looking "engagement social gathering." yet you artwork there is quite no impressive or incorrect to celebrating. enable the couple get exhilaration from there engagement by themselves for somewhat -- perhaps a month or so -- earlier throwing them a social gathering. then you definately can start up up the making plans for wedding ceremony/bridal showers and the bachelorette social gathering and what no longer, which might happen closer to the quite wedding ceremony date.

engagement parties are very rude and wrong. it its just another excuse for more gifts. the engagement is supposed to be announced at an informal family gathering of both families.
