Most spying happens at coctail parties. Almost all the CIA training is through cocktail parties. They try to get the other side drunk and then pry information. During the Vietnam war, the CIA and KGB often had drinks together in Vietnam.

The Russians stole some oil refinery information from the west, but the CIA put a tweak in it that caused the refinery to explode.

The U.S. shows top scientists from enemy nations their new products. For instance a Russian general saw the F-117 before the U.S. public. One time the scientists put gum on their shoes to pick up the metal alloys at a factory. The scientists were quickly caught.

The White House has vibrating windows because the Soviet embassy put a long range listening device up and pointed it at the White House. When the U.S. found out and before they put up the vibrating windows, the people had to play loud music and stom their feet to hide their conversation.

U.S. subs have put listening devices on the undersea telephone cables.

The majority of the spy's job is to read the newspaper and watch the news in other countries. Those are called white spies, because it's not illegal to do those things.

U.S. spies in the Soviet Union posed as math students and hid their notes in math problems.

The CIA played a whammy on the French spies. U.S. businessmen in France were being watched by snooping French spies. The CIA knows this because they buged a hotel room, while posing as businessmen, and watched, via hidden cameras, the French bug the room.

The Russians watched some British spies plant a fake rock outside of a sensative area. They filmed the spies kicking the rock, playing with the rock etc. at various times throughout the year. Then they made a Three Stooges like film out of thier film and broadcasted the spies playing with the fake rock on regular TV.

The anti nuclear weapon rallys and anti-Vietnam ralleys were sponsered by the KGB. That's why you don't see those kinds of rallies anymore.

The U.S. captured a Russian APC called a BMP, but the safety engineer barred the U.S. military from driving it fearing the transmission would blow up and fry the crew.

One of the reasons why the U.S. tried the containment strategy on the USSR was they paid attention to the average lifespan for the Soviet males which kept dropping even in the 1950s. They knew then it was just a matter of time before the Soviet Union collapsed.

The Soviets invited the U.S. generals to see their nuclear program. They flew their bombers in a circle formation and even though they had three long range bombers, the U.S. generals came back and said the Soviets had 300 long range bombers.

On the side of the road in the U.S., you will see road markers. Each road marker shows the highway/freeway number and the miles from one end. Those markers were used as drop off places by the KGB.
