I got caught in the rain on a recent trip, and my tail light filled up with water. Before I could get it to the car dealer to ask them about it, the cover came UNGLUED and fell off. They are telling me it is no longer under factory warranty, and the BUMPER to BUMPER warranty that I paid for does not cover tail lights. Even if I pay for the repairs, what happens next time it rains on me? Any advice?

It's a 2005 Dodge Caravan with just over 42 thousand miles on it. I live in dry climate, and most of those miles are highway miles. When I told Dodge customer care, all they could say is "sorry"

Unfortunately, a safety recall does not occur that fast. It must involve at least 100, 000 vehicles across the country and pose a threat to life. Even though a stop light is a safety device, the train of thought in the auto industry is that you have more than one stop light, therefore not causing a problem. I agree with you whole hearted it should be a recall because I see this all the time. I have owned a repair shop for many years and also worked for General Motors.

Double check with the warranty guarantor. They usually cover the assembly but not the bulb, it's considered a consumable part.

As for the recall notify the U.S. Product Safety Commission. They probably wont do anything. Also try the automobile manufacturer.

BTW extended warranties are generally worthless. It's just something dealers came up with to increase their profits. Might as well have taken the money into the parking lot and set it on fire.

You can't cause a recall. Recalls are either mandated by the government or voluntary by the manufacturer. This would have to be a common problem affecting the safety of the vehicle. The tail lights would qualify as a safety item. It would require allot of people having this problem to warrant a recall.
Most tail lights are easy to replace your self check the junk yards for a cheep one.

how old is the car and how old is the warranty is the car a Chevy ? and if its bumper to bumper than someone missed a step ! if you feel your not being dealt with fairly? call - B.B.B. Better, Business, Burro, or Consumer Affairs, and they will listen and do something about it, they do not start a recall on one vehicle, must be found defective and it takes many complaints to even get one on the ledger board OK take care good luck
