I have been lucky enough to own a couple of Dogues, both of whom were rescue dogs and were not aggressive with humans but tended to be very dominant with other dogs.
If you plan on buying one as a pup then you should be fine if you seek the help of an experienced owner of the breed, I would be wary of buying a more mature animal however as if they are not trained and socialised properly then you could be looking at BIG trouble. A male Dogue can get up to around 14 stone and if you don't know its character then you are running a huge risk - imagine having a fight with a 14 stone bloke, then double the strength and you have an idea of an aggressive Dogue. They were bred for hunting lions (and slaves - but we won't go into that) and fighting animals more than twice their size, so aggression is not something that can be easily bred out, it can however be suppressed.
Basically research a breeder before you buy a pup and see both parents in as many environments as poss, ie with kids, other dogs, out on the lead and with strangers, and NEVER leave ANY large dog unattended with young children.

Dogue De Bordeaux are hugely loyal and loving and will protect their family and property with their lives if you treat them with the respect they deserve. Take a look at the Ultimate Book of Mastiff Breeds by Douglas Olif, the section in there is about the best I have found on this magnificent breed.

breeding a trait into ANY breed, takes a lot of careful breeding, and MANY generations of dogs.

As with ANY bully breed, they are smart, strong willed dogs and will need diligent training from the time you bring the puppy home. I highly suggest a trainer who is familiar with bully breeds.

These dogs are NOT for everyone. Do some research, go to a dog show, talk to someone who has owned them for a long period of time, before considering a Bordeaux as a pet.

My mate at work has one and they're huge, but they are strong willed dogs so you'll have to make sure the dog knows that you're the alpha male. If you do that you'll have a dog that's loyal and loving and will do anything to protect family members from harm.

try looking the breed up online. Maybe you can find a breeder to ask.
