Again JewishGirl has hit the nail on the head; you live longer. Birmingham University conducted trials on Church membership in the north of England that showed up to a twelve percentile increase in life expectancy.
Our Western Cultures have become so atomised in the past half century that it is easy to become isolated in large urban spaces. Human beings are community animals who need the contact of other people and Church, Synagogue, Mosque etc fill this gap created in alienating cultures. Of course, a membership in a local Masonic Lodge or a Golf Club or even a Book Club can do the same. The lesson is that we need other people. It is nice to be important, but it is more important to be nice. Shalom.

God calls on us to be part of a body. The local church is supposed to build up, support, and encourage the believer. There are people in the church whose job it is to take care of the physical needs of the congregation as per Acts 6. And it is also a means to which a person is corrected when they stray into sin. There are people who will hold a person accountable for their actions.

And I've also heard executives and entrepreneurs say it's a good way to network.

uh, apparently you live longer if you attend. from studies i have seen on yahoo. also it integrates you into a community and gives you a sense of intimacy with the people you live with.
