I guess it depends. If it is something that will get soggy if I put it in while still hot then I'll let it cool. But if it doesn't matter I just put it in fresh.

I never let the food completely cool before storing it in the fridge. If it's still a little warm, it is okay to store in the fridge. Just make sure to seal it well and if it's casseroles or pasta, add a little bit of water to "freshen" it up before reheating.

You're not supposed to let it cool (growth of bacteria in your food), but I wouldn't put it in there super hot either (break glass dishes/waste energy in your fridge/defrosts other food in your fridge). Don't let the food sit out more than an hour (I believe that's the rule - at least that's what I follow).

You shouldn't. There is a temperature "danger zone" for food in which bacteria and other fun things thrive. It is best to keep the food out of that danger zone as much as possible--so letting food sit at room temperature is a good way to get food poisoning. If you aren't going to eat something right away, you should put it in the fridge asap. "Keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold."

If you want to save electricity, then yes, let it cool first. Refrigerators work by removing heat, not by producing cool, like most people think. Therefore, the more heat you put in your fridge, the more electricity it will take to remove it.

Yes, for practicality and safety of other foods in refrigerator. Placing hot foods in a refrigerator would bring up the temperature in the unit and cause more electricity to be used.

Waiting 1/2 hr to 1 hr until the food has cooled to refrigerate has never made us sick.

I was always told to never put hot food in the fridge. (Unless you want to kill someone) I learned that from my mom, working in a restaurant and from a friend that is currently in a culinary class in college.

Yes, but I heard that you really shouldn't. Letting it sit at room temp encourages bacterial growth. That being said, I've never seen anyone get sick off food that's been sitting out for 20 minutes.
