I can understand the Dobermans and Great Danes,,as they are still discriminated against in the show rings if it isn't done..although AKC doesn't encourage it on 'paper'..the judges do..
However, I am afraid I can't help you with any guilt about a pit bull puppy..there is no good reason, other than vanity..

I quit breeding Dobermans, because I just couldn't face mutilating one more sweet puppy!

However, what is done, is done..so you have to pick yourself up and just do the aftercare as well as you can..and love your baby..

Now that it's done there is nothing you can do about it. You will need to take great care the cut edges don't get infected or that the stitches get pulled out. You also need to be very vigilant about taping. Depending on the breed and the length of the crop it can take from just a couple of weeks to several months of taping to get the ears standing properly.

To Chetco..Dobermans and Danes aren't discriminated against in the ring if their ears are left natural. The breed standard allows for either natural or cropped. Many dogs of either bred with natural ears have won their championships. There are very few judges who won't put up a dog with natural ears, all else being equal.

Yeah I would feel bad after paying someone to mutilate my dog too. I do not mean to be rude... but ear cropping is not necessary and usually only adds to people's fear about the breed. (Pit Bulls get enough of this with out people adding to it) There is no reason to do this...except for when the owner is vain. It is painful for them and can actually negatively effect there hearing.

So why did you do it in the first place?

Just take care of him and raise him right and be a responsible owner. Try not to worry so much about his appearance and more about his health and educating the public about your wonderful Bully breed.

did you take any time and talk to your vet about this procedure at all? ear cropping is extremely painful for the dog, not necessary to register, show or breed your dog and leaves the dog open to ear infections because there is no protection into the ear canal. a good portion of reputable vets will not crop ears anymore.

Poor thing - all for a cosmetic reason - no medical reason why you just put that poor puppy through all that pain. You must be into cosmetic surgeries. How awful for the pup. He looked better before, when his complete ear was intact.

You seem to young to have known better, so let yourself off the hook. But yeah, i think others are right: It's pretty cruel and makes no sense.

Just be nice to the dog from here on in.

That's so horrible. How could you mutiliate your puppy like that? Doing that actually makes their hearing a little worse and it's not necessary at all.

You should feel very guility.
