ah - I left home at 21 and never looked back. In some ways it was the best thing I ever did, but now that I'm married and "stuck" in Hawaii - it's really something I think about a lot. I want to be near my family but I really dread the idea of moving back to that part of the US. I haven't figured out the solution yet; but at least you're only 5 hours away!!! I'm 3000 miles.
You have to decide what's the most important to you and if you can be happy personally wherever you land.

If your happy, stay where you are. Wouldn't hurt them to come visit you once in a while too, ya know? I'm 600 miles from home and I'll NEVER move back!! It's just me, my husband, 2 dogs, 2 kitties, and an iguana around here. All of our immediate family is 9 hours away and that's just fine by me. My family is a mess anyway, I hope your's isn't a wreck like mine though!!!!!

I have moved away from my home town for about 15 years I lived there for 25, childhood adolescence and slightly beyond.
I have experienced many different things and could never go back to live. My friends that are still there are hating it because they have never experienced anything else.
A saying I always liked;
You can never discover new land if you are afraid to lose sight of the shore.

I think that it depends on the kind of child hood that you had. If it was a good one move back home and enjoy the family and old friends. If it wasn't so good keep away. I had a great child hood so moving back home for me was wonderful. I spent time catching up with old friends and remembering the good ole days.

Really it all depends on the memories you had growing up in that neighborhood if it was a good one that is great. But also it is nice to have your family close. But you have to see how best if works for you in terms of a job, finding a place to live

Fairly, yes. I live a half hour away from where I grew up.
Why does it seem lame? I happen to like where I am and I love my family. Nothing wrong with that.

Always have a "B" plan, in case you don't like it! I'm, in Southern California & I consider Northern California my home, but I'd never live there again because of the overpopulation.
