Walking lunges are easier on your knees, and better for sculpting the entire upper leg. Standing lunges are just pretty much good for the butt.

I prefer walking lunges because I think anything that challenges my balance the most is going to give me a better result. (If you don't have room for walking lunges, try the standing ones with your eyes closed.)
