It really depends on how messed up your teeth are to begin with. I had mine on for about three years and my teeth were not the worst I've ever seen.
Back in the day when I had my braces they didn't have anything but the full out metal ones. Yes, those were hideously unattractive. Any additional "hardware" you had to wear was even more unattractive and downright freakish. Luckily I was not one of thoes poor souls.
These days they're better. You can get the clear ones or, again depending on how bad your teeth are, the Invisalign which affix to the backside of your teeth. Talk with your orthodontist about your options and a time estimate.

All depending on how bad it is, normally it doesn't take but a year and a half to two years. And if you wear your rubber bands if you have to wear them ;) And no, braces ain't really unattractive. All depending on the person wearing them. And if you have an "oh my goodness, I'm so ugly I'm wearing braces" attitude, yeah it will be unattractive, but if your happy go lucky, "so what if I've got braces, I'm gonna get 'em off soon and my teeth will be pretty" attitude, then it does make a difference.

Mine is taking 20 months.
I hate braces honestly but seriously 1 year and 8 months for some straight teeth. I'm willing to go that route.

depends on how bad your teeth were to start, what needs to move where, etc
I've known people that had to have braces for 3+ yrs and others that had them off in ~1 yr
I'm going for Invisalign and my dentist says it'll take ~ 18 months to finish my treatment. If you're worried about all that metal in your mouth, maybe Invisalign would be a good option for you since it's clear and not really noticeable

It all depends on your teeth. Anywhere from 2 to 4 years.

It depends on how bad your teeth are. Average time is about 2 years, but I've seen people with really bad overbites that had to keep them on for 4 years.

I am getting braces soon and was told i will have to wear them for 20 months or so, and my teeth are pretty bad. It depends how old you are and how bad your teeth are. And no, I don't think braces are unattractive.........crooked messed up teeth are though.

answer #a million) specific! Braces do fix "dollar enamel". answer #2) No you are able to not get braces which you purely positioned on at night. The braces are affixed to the enamel, to go then and carry them in place for the time of the transition. answer #3) There are claims of "invisible braces, yet they generally meant for under common adjustment/correction and could no longer artwork for protruding front enamel. answer #4) See answer #a million
