New York City is now the safest large City in the US/ Its so much better since Guiliani and his crooked police chief are gone. There are many visitor from Europe; maybe is that Euro donig better than the Pound.

You clearly saw a small glimpse into the city's life. There are cops everywhere.... I've been seeing them more in and on the subways than EVER before. Maybe they've moved some of the street cops to be in the subways. There are ALWAYS foreign tourists. I guess it depends on what time of year you come and what sites you are seeing.

Today, because Bush was in town, there were literally 20-30 cops within two blocks of my house. It was insane, and I've seen a cop on basically every other corner in other neighborhoods... I was just thinking about how many cops I've been seeing out and about lately actually, especially around the subways this year.

I don't know what you are comparing to. Depends on where you where, what was going on. Like today the UN is in session and there are cops all over the place on the east side between 34th and 60th. On the Fourth of July there were cops all over. New Years Eve they are all around Times Square. Also, that isn't a very high crime area. Maybe Bloomberg is putting the cops where the crime is.

Toursim have been increasing steadily. The overall size of the Police force hasn't changed.
