Some good gifts for guys are things that guys can't or usually do not go out and buy for themselves.
Go to Macy's or some Department store and smell all the scents and pick out one you like and give it to him.
Guys like cool looking bottles so you may want to go by the bottles look as well as the smell.
Polo Blue is a nice scent and the Blue bottle is nice looking.
He doesn't need a big bottle just a 2.5oz size will work fine.
Tell the guy when you give it to him that you went out and picked it out FOR HIM and that you like the smell. He will like that you chose it for him and that he knows that you will like the way it smells.

take him to hooters and really enjoy the experience with him, point out different girls, even if they don't work there
take him to a football game or baseball game, whatever sport he likes buy him beer or whatnot
