Yes they can. I have been a pharmacy technician for 10 years and we call other pharmacies all the time to get information. Other pharmacies call us and want to know if their patients are getting narcotics from our pharmacy and vice versa. If we receive a prescription for a drug that we know was recently prescribed by another physician. We will call the physician and let them know. The other physician has the right to know the prescribing history of a patient that they are seeing. The patients sometimes hide other doctor visits from them.

In most states, only if they receive an authorization for release of information signed by you. the form is commonly called HIPAA authorization, which is a misnomer, HIPAA is generally concerned with release of information to government agencies, it's the local state laws that dictate what information is considered private. look up the local dept of health website for exact info on what is allowed to be released by a medical provider and to whom.

yes....but it is all 'need to know'. I suggest you read the HIPPA handout the pharmacy gave you.
