If he enabled receiving e-mail from other user then you can e-mail him. Check his profile by clicking on his avatar to see if you can e-mail him or not. Otherwise you can thank him by adding comment to the resolved question. You will find the comment button down the best answer.
The previous answerer mentioned thanking him through incorporating it in your answer to his posted question though it sounds not right but you could resort to it if you got no other option.

You can add additional details to the question you asked. You can look up his user ID and see if his email is available. Or you can tell him by posting it on one of the open questions he has asked.

go to U're profile.....look in u're questions then look for the question u asked that he answered ... then click on that person to view his profile then click:contact this person, or send ....
