Here's the thing with pads. They stink.

They're not as absorbant as they need to be. If a dog uses a pad 2-3 times, a small amount of urine leaks onto the floor. the smell is now on the floor, and they pee where it smells like pee. This could be why your dog is missing.

Another reason your dog might be missing is because her head is over the pad, so she thinks it's ok. Meanwhile, the parts that count are outside of the pad.

Crate training is the way to go. The crate becomes her home, and dog's won't pee in their home, unless they can't hold it anymore.

Remember to stay on a schedule with potty breaks. Dogs thrive on routine. If you're a parent, keep a schedule like you would for a baby. Time to eat, time to sleep, time to pee, etc.

Good luck! If you have carpet, it's time to rent a rug doctor! If all else fails, go to a petco or petsmart and sign up for a training class. It's not cheap, but it's very helpful.

If you have a petstore near you there is a bottle of spray that you can buy. I am not sure what it is called but it is a smell that attracts the dog to go to the bathroom where ever you spray it. So if you sprayed it on the puppy pads it would go there. If that does not work you need to scold your dog WHEN and only WHEN you see it use the bathroom. Try to close the basement off. You might have to even put her in one room while you are gone, just make sure the puppy pads are in there too. It will make it easier on you.--Ash

First, when you train a dog to use a puppy training pad, you are reinforcing the behavior that going potty in the house is OK. Therefore, the dog will potty in the house. You need to watch her closely to see when she's just about to go (look for circling while sniffing the ground), and then take her outside and give her a command such as "go pee", "go potty", or "business". This will be a trigger word that you will you use to tell her when it is apropriate to go potty. Look up housebreaking articles online, and if you still cannot accomplish the goal, you may need to get a dog trainer involved.

,Well, depending on the age of the dog , i think to a point that it's true that you can't teach a dog old tricks or something like that. Anyways i had a small dog once and she never would learn to use it outdoors. I mean i tried and tried to get her to use it outdoors , but she just would not learn. Try taking her outside in the morning before going to work or wherever and when and if she / her uses it give a treat and pet him/her and let them know that she/ he did a great job and make sure there's way for her/him to go in and out the door easily cause believe or not pets greive when their master is gone off, leave a radio or tv on him/her it will help too and also make sure that you tell them that you will be back later and when she/ he doesnt' use it in the house make sure you reward him/her by praising them with something like good dog / good boy/ girl and let them know you care spend time with her/ him , Also try getting some toys to occupy them while you are away CAUSE AFTER ALL PETS HAVE FEELINGS TOO. One last thing get you one of those pet books they sell them in most grocery stores and or walmarts too.

Look into crate training. If she is only 2 months old, she can only hold it 3 hours (I read its how many months plus an hour). I would look into crate training, seriously. House training a dog takes a long time. Don't get discouraged. Don't yell at the dog when you get home and she has peed or pooped on the floor. She forgets what she did and it teaches her only to fear you.

Keep her in a crate or x-pen when you are gone. The more she learns to go wherever she wants the more difficult it will be to correct her later on. If you can't be actively watching her she should be crated. It gives them a safe place to go when they are older and is invaluable if you ever have to board her or if she ever needs an overnight stay at the vet. Most dogs properly crate trained like the cages a lot... it simulates a den for them and can make them feel safe when you are gone...

I would start teaching her to go outside instead of indoors. After you feed her wait about 20-30 min and watch for signs that she might want to go, and take her out as soon as she looks like she's going to do it. Be patient. She's a young pup and it's going to take a little time for her to learn. But she'll get the message the older she gets. Letting her go indoors is just going to make it that much harder for you to train her to go outdoors. And the only way she isn't going to go indoors is if she's trained to go outdoors. Good luck! And remember the 3 p"s, Patience, Persistance, and Praise.

I agree with Sarah H. Go for the crate training, and also take her outside to go potty, and give her a command. I train all of my puppies this way, and they are trained by the time they are 6 weeks old. If you want more info, feel free to contact me privately.

When my shepard was a small puppy, I would take her out and she would wait till we came back in and would sneek in the basement to do her business... I would get so mad, I did alot of yelling and swearing lol...then I decided to keep the door closed that went to the basement and that has stoped her from going down there.
