if youre talking about universities its a point system designed to allow you to be an honor graduate which basically is only for prestige (dont get me wrong theres no fault in that so long as youre working for it)....it is based on things like community and civic duty and scholarly performance...there are different categories with most having a goal of 5 points needed per semester
