He has Adhd and dyslexia I know that would not be an excuse but it may result in a different answer if someone else has had this problem. He does take medicine everyday for the adhd. He is a good kid and won't even swear but has been lying like about homework and I believe him until I said I will call your teacher tomarrow and he admits he was lying.

I have a nine year old son, two, and believe me, they are like little lying sacks of sh!t all the time. When I catch him in a lie I make sure there is a punishment that is SMALL, yet fits the crime. (like, if he didn't do his homework, I tell him no screens - tv, gameboy, computer, every night til the end of that week until I see and check his homework. The key is to make the punishment small. Next week he gets to try again. Then, when you catch him, and he won't admit it, you tell him, you need to come clean, because if you lie you will get in more trouble for the lie than for the crime. Eventually he will but remember he's a kid and they are testing the boundaries and cutting the cord from mom, and this is how they do it.

after explaining that lying is bad and the behavior continued i started lying right back to mine when they started this - little lies. whats for dinner ma ? hotdogs i would say , then at dinner there would be meatloaf. , "can we go to the park?" sure , after you finish your homework. - then he would say ok finished , i would say "oops, i lied" we arent going. ect. not lies that hurt or cause harm in anyway but that let him know how it feels like to be lied to. after a week of this the poor kid finally figured out that lying wasnt the way to go. oh and its not because of his adhd its because its a stage all kids go thru.

then you need to introduce concequeses for his lying. ADHD or whatever...he needs to learn. Even if it's just little lies. I give concequenses to my 4 year olds who lie. It didn't take them long, now they just deal with whatever it is they have done or need to tell me.

Talk to him about lying and how it's wrong and can hurt people. Tell him how God hates lying and that he made a commandment against lying.
